OVERVIEW: This machine was sent to us for evaluation and we put it through it paces to see if the claims they made were true and it was worth the money.
Appearance: Decently made, looks like some sort thermal cup coffee maker at first glance. Small foootprint- not a counter hog. Nicely made stainless steel shaker with handy ice scoop
First Impression: Easy-to-read and understand directions (always important), relatively quiet and quite fast. Easy-to-set up.
Testing We followed the simple directions, filled with water reservoir and and dailed in our ice size.
Operation and Usage : The machine was actually rather impressive for the speed in which it made the ice.
The ice however is not your standard ice cubes but rather something that resembles a large hollow thimble rather than a cube. This type of ice is called bullet ice as it resembles a bullet . Great for chilling a drink but not so much for making a cocktail - at least from a shaking point of view- too much dilution too soon. On the other hand it was great for blender/frozen drinks as the ice was easily chopped and blended for drinks without beating up our blender - which regular ice cubes will do.
Machine has a fast ice making cycle and requires no external plumbing attachments which make it very portable and easily moved.Will work anywhere you have power - so you can easily take it to your deck, patio, etc., and not worry. You can also easily move it inside or anywhere else you need to go without having to unhook any water lines or such- just unplug it and go! Easy to clean and maintain.
Final Thoughts: As a general purpose ice machine for making ice for yourself and for parties, we thought it was a wonderful thing. A great casual use kind of machine that we could recommend for most people who need a good deal of ice relatively fast. However if you are a mixologist who is fussy about your ice, this will not work for you, the ice is too small and melts a bit too fast for hard shaking. Also the reservoir is a bit small for commercial quantities of ice - but that is not what this machine is designed for. Overall a nice machine that is very handy, robust and easy to use.
